Art as Advocacy members who are curators all have a learning disability and we all have in common the different ways of independence and diferent levels of support.
Auto Agents exhibition which we curated was launched on Friday 25th November 2016 at The Blue Coat. It features work by James Harper, Alaener Turner and Mark Simmonds
I wrote by myself the funding bid from the Well Being Enterprises with some help with Jade. Most of it I did without any help.
This will help me to expand on Positive You and the materials I will need for when I run sessions like the One Day Workshop in Knowsley.
Sewing with Becky
Becky is teaching me how to sew in this photo. At the time I wanted to do some practicing in doing bunting but to do this I needed some help. Jade told Becky about me and she agreed to come and help me she showed me lots of ways how to sew.
One Day Workshop in Knowsley
Positive You ran a One Day Workshop in Knowsley and worked with self advocates the morning session we looked at more closely what is good support and what is bad support and also being creative. here is the figures we made by using googly eyes, string for hair, coloured pens and paints.
In the afternoon I asked the self advocates to think of something they are proud of or something they have achieved that they are happy about. To do this we made bunting celebrating each persons achievement or something that they are proud of.
Back in September Positive You hosted a one day workshop at Knowsley Disability Concern. I worked with the Self Advocates from the organisation to explore confidence and self esteem. This included two creative exersises.
The first exersise is about bad support/good support. To do this we used two people made out of paper, googley eyes and wool for the hair. We talked about good suport/bad support and I asked the self advocates to put the bad suport things on one side of the figure and the good support things on the other side. Lots of people said;
Bad Support is:
Not being listened to
Turning up late
Forgot the time
Good Support is:
Listening to you
Supporting you in the right way
Helping you when you need help
The second exersise is Celebrate Me bunting I asked the self advocates to think of something they are proud of about themselves or something they like about themself. To do this we used practice bunting triangles before starting the bunting, Once the self advocates designed their triangle, we attached it all to the ribbon to make bunting.
